Pair of white resin pilaster palm tree copies of originals by Tate & Hall circa 1930. The New York decorator Marian Hall, of the firm Tate and Hall, commissioned them for Frances and Carl Schmidlapp, an investment banker who bought an apartment at the then-brand-new white-glove limestone building at 834 Fifth Avenue. Referenced as the cover of the 1971 book “Jansen / Decoration” & Legendary Decorators of the 20th century, pgs 52-54. We have two pairs available, priced each.
Marian Wells Hall was one of New York’s best known interior decorators. In partnership with Diane Tate, Miss Hall had as clients Mrs. Ailsa Mellon Bruce, the Paul Melions, the Carl J. Schmidlapps and the John M. Schiffs. The firm of Diane Tate and Marian Hall, Inc., was responsible for the redecoration of the Sherry Room at the old Metropolitan Opera House in 1951.
