According to a Chinese legend It is believed that a carp (koi fish) that swims upstream becomes a dragon and flies to heaven. The auspicious carp and wave pattern symbolizes leap and success and has been a beloved pattern used in lacquer work and ceramics in Japan since ancient times. From the end of the Edo period, May 5th has been a day of celebration for the success and healthy growth of children. On this day Japanese households with children raise windsocks in the shape of carp called koinobori. As the wind moves the windsocks it seems like the carps are swiming.
This stunning piece in an elegant shape entertains the eyes with two koi fish or carp rendered in platinum swimming toward each other designed to accentuate the rounded features of the koi carp
