Vintage Design
A very rare, and excellent example a 17th Century Renaissance period two-body (buffet deux corps) cabinet constructed in oak and pollard oak, richly moulded and carved throughout. The upper part, with a dentil moulding cornice, is set back. Two doors having deep fielded panels of figured pollard oak, and barley twisted pillars, the key and escutcheon are on the right door and two drawers below.
The lower body rests on a large protruding moulded base, having two drawers at the top and two doors below, again with the original door lock and key, matching the above, that open to reveal storage with a shelf. The sculpted mouldings echo the patterns of the upper part. The sides consist of a single panel for top and bottom halves. The whole resting on turned bun feet to the front.
An impressive and unique Renaissance style, two-body cabinet that has charming features with exceptional, original colour and patination.
